Experiential Therapy

Experiential therapy helps clients tap into their underlying issues that have remained unconscious for years such as unresolved conflicts and trauma, dysfunctional or abusive relationship patterns, repressed emotions, inadequate problem solving skills, poor communication skills, unmet needs and wants, etc. Experiential therapy allows clients to get in touch with their innermost desires, needs, wants and emotions by using expressive tools and activities to recreate and reexperience emotional experiences and relationships from the past. By looking deep within themselves in an open and honest manner, one will be able to see how all of their experiences have directly influenced their behavior, decision-making and the way in which they’ve reacted to the events (both good and bad) in their lives. It is by gaining this type of in-depth and thorough self-awareness that one can begin to address the reality of their situation and will have a greater chance of being successful in their recovery. Some of the experiential therapies we use at Hotel California by the Sea include yoga, nutritional therapy, aromatherapy, music therapy and art therapy.

Yoga therapy

Mindful practices are an important part of our clients’ addiction treatment program at Hotel California by the Sea in Newport Beach. For many of our clients, mornings begin with a morning meditation. Meditative practices such as yoga enables the mind to settle down and the thoughts to quiet down. It is through practices such as yoga that clients are able to get beneath the choppy waves of their racing thoughts, limiting beliefs, and anxiety and learn to truly feel at peace with themselves and the world around them. Throughout our client’s stay with us in our women’s addiction rehab program, we encourage our clients to dedicate at least 30 minutes per day to meditative practices like yoga. We also incorporate breath-works and mindfulness meditation groups in our weekly program schedule.

Aromatherapy is a hands on healing technique that will channel the mind, body, spirit, and emotion throughout all levels of the body. Aromatherapy involves the use of natural oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves and roots to promote holistic healing, balance and harmony within the body, mind and spirit. Breathing in the aroma from essential oils stimulates the brain and improves psychological and physical health. Aromatherapy is believed to significantly improve one’s mood and increase one’s cognitive functioning as well as allow for one to feel more at peace. Aromatherapy is also thought to help release blocked negative emotions or issues. At Hotel California by the Sea, we believe that this type of holistic approach to healing is very beneficial. Our expert energy healer introduces our clients to the world of essential oils for holistic healing of the body, mind, and spirit and our clients will create their own blend of oils based on their needs.

Art therapy

Art therapy helps our clients find peace within themselves through the explorations of feelings through the use of drawing, watercolors and other artistic mediums. Getting one’s thoughts, feelings and emotions, both good and bad, onto paper through art is a very powerful and healing activity. After our clients are finished reflecting on their artwork, our clients take turns sharing what they are trying to represent through their artwork. Through this process, our clients are able to inspire and offer hope to one another.

Spiritual Guidance and Meditation
